Kerrie Warren
Abstract Expressionist Painter
I was born in Melbourne Australia on the 7th of May, 1968 and as a young child lived like a gypsy moving from place to place with my family. Initially in Melbourne suburbs and twice in South Australia before we made our home in Gippsland Victoria.. After being a ‘new girl’ at 16 different schools, I now believe that writing poetry and drawing from a very young age had been art ‘therapy’.
I left school at the age of 16 to enter the workforce and 9 years later resigned to study for my Diploma of Art in Ceramics which led me to late night painting classes… this was the first time in my life that I felt I actually belonged somewhere. Life became very exciting and purposeful! I found through Art a way to express myself and for the first time I could take a deep breathe in this world!
I was fascinated by the spontaneous, creative urges which then led me to the Diploma in Transpersonal Art Therapy, initially believing that I might also use this to support my career and hunger to paint. I discovered instead that I was drawn to this for my own healing and evolvement as a person, as an artist. It was a great opportunity for me to cacoon from the outside world, grow my own wings and open the door to abstract expressionism!
I now work as a full time Artist from my studio in Crossover, Victoria. My studio is nestled in a quiet country setting approximately an hour from the capital city Melbourne. I live with passion and am true to my instincts through my work. My reference points are internal, my influences are environmental and I feel a deep connection with nature and the energy of life!
I feel abstract expressionism provides me with a direct link to my life’s purpose, so I am continually drawn to my studio. I can now see that my work relates to the tracking and marking of ‘energy’ and I’m fascinated by quantum physics and finding patterns within chaos.
Being an artist has presented many challenges and opportunities to me, I’ve recently been the coordinating artist of a group ‘Wild Dogs from Down Under’ and we created a body of work that toured through Victoria Australia and over to our sister city JiuJiiang in China in 2007, creating links and connections on a local, state and global level.
In December 2008, my work was represented by Art Platform at the Guangzhou International Art Fair in China. I am so grateful that my passion leads me to these opportunities and I now look forward to another journey….. New York in June this year!
